Senior Electrical Engineer – Advanced Power Systems
Locations: Lexington, MA or New London, CT (Hybrid options may be discussed)
Required: US Citizenship (Ability to obtain a security clearance)
Compensation: $140K to $180K + 401K + Full Relocation Package
The Opportunity
We are looking for a creative and motivated Power Electronics Engineer to join a premier R&D engineering firm specializing in high-performance systems for extreme environments. This is a “hands-on” design role within a multidisciplinary team where you will bridge the gap between theoretical physics and ruggedized hardware.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead the end-to-end development of complex power conversion and distribution systems.
-
Design, simulate, and prototype high-voltage power components, including DC/DC and AC/DC systems.
-
Architect solutions for high-reliability applications, focusing on thermal management and electromagnetic interference (EMI/EMC) compliance.
-
Collaborate with embedded software and mechanical teams to integrate power hardware into larger autonomous or remote-sensing platforms.
-
Conduct laboratory and field-testing to validate prototype performance under operational conditions.
Technical Qualifications
-
Education: BSEE required (MSEE or PhD preferred) with a concentration in Power Electronics or Energy Systems.
-
Experience: Professional track record (4+ years for BS; 1+ year for MS) in hardware design and board-level integration.
-
Power Design: Experience with high-capacity power supplies, ranging from hundreds of watts to multi-kilowatt systems.
-
Semiconductor Expertise: Proficiency with SiC, GaN, or IGBT technologies and MOSFET-based switching circuits.
-
Tools: Mastery of schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium, Cadence) and simulation software like MATLAB/Simulink or PSpice.
-
Testing: Strong skills with lab instrumentation, including high-speed oscilloscopes and power analyzers.
Desirable Attributes
-
Experience designing electronics for ruggedized, outdoor, or fluid-submerged environments.
-
Familiarity with motor drives, electromechanical actuators, or sensor-front-end electronics.
-
Knowledge of power topologies including Resonant, Flyback, Buck-Boost, and Bridge converters.
-
Basic coding skills in C/C++ or Python for microcontroller interfacing.
-
An entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to work in small, high-impact project teams.
