An advanced technology organization supporting high-impact government and aerospace initiatives is seeking a Senior Staff Electrical Engineer to help develop sophisticated electro-optical and laser-based systems. This position is part of a research-driven engineering group working on both next-generation concepts and practical hardware solutions for demanding mission environments.
In this role, you will contribute across the full hardware development lifecycle, helping design, validate, improve, and troubleshoot electronics used in complex optical platforms. The work spans a variety of efforts, from rapid-turn prototype activities to longer-horizon development programs, making this an excellent fit for an engineer who enjoys both depth and variety.

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team while maintaining a high degree of ownership within your technical domain. The environment is collaborative, engineering-focused, and supportive, with leadership that values sound judgment, initiative, and hands-on problem solving.

What You’ll Do
* Design and develop electronic hardware for advanced electro-optical systems
* Support new product development and ongoing improvement of existing hardware designs
* Perform schematic capture, board-level design support, and hardware verification
* Contribute to embedded electronics efforts involving digital boards and supporting subsystems
* Participate in firmware-related development and debug activities involving programmable logic and processors
* Design and review cables, interconnects, and harnessing as needed
* Generate and maintain technical documentation for design, test, and integration activities
* Conduct board-level and full-system bring-up, integration, test, and troubleshooting
* Use standard electrical lab instrumentation in support of development and debug
* Support experimental work, hands-on development efforts, and field test activities when required
* Manage multiple parallel assignments ranging from fast-moving prototype tasks to larger long-term engineering programs

Required Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
* Approximately 10-20 years of relevant industry experience
* Strong background in electronic hardware development, including board design, integration, and debug
* Hands-on engineering approach with willingness to support testing in lab and field environments
* Experience using common electrical test and measurement equipment in embedded or hardware development settings
* U.S. citizenship and ability to be cleared

Preferred Qualifications
* Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
* Experience developing high-reliability electronics for defense, aerospace, or space applications
* Background in FPGA or CPLD design, simulation, integration, and troubleshooting
* Experience with embedded processor / microcontroller firmware development and system bring-up
* Familiarity with LIDAR or related electro-optical sensing technologies
Why This Role Stands Out
* Opportunity to work on technically challenging systems with real-world aerospace and government applications
* Mix of research, prototyping, product development, and system integration work
* Broad technical ownership across hardware design, embedded electronics, and system testing
* Supportive team setting with meaningful engineering autonomy
